Centre on the Death Penalty

The Centre on the Death Penalty (CDP) works within the criminal justice system and to abolish the death penalty. Its goal is also to create a national repository of prisoners on death row. The logo needs to at one level give gravitas to the organization, but more importantly also suggest —though not explicitly (as it is a government-funded organization) — that it is against the death penalty.

The design we created for the Centre on the Death Penalty, combines the question mark — which questions the very existence of this organization and the death penalty itself — with a noose which represents how death penalties are usually conducted in India — that is, through hanging. The use of grayscale further gives the organization a sense of gravitas and importance.
